Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom premieres on June 14th on TNT Network. The show follows the Cody family as they remain intact by any means necessary. Whether it be a heist or extreme violence, the Cody’s are a herd not to be reckoned with.

Interview with Finn Cole (J Cody)

Finn Cole plays J Cody the reluctant and seemingly uncorrupted addition to the Cody family. When asked how his character navigates this new life of corruption he said,

“Jay has always been a survivor in my opinion and continues to be in this crazy world that is the Animal Kingdom and in this crazy family. It’s about finding where he belongs and using the experiences that he might have had growing up to survive in this new world. “

Personally, Cole most closely identifies with Smurf. The queen bee of the kingdom with an equally vicious and nurturing demeanor. Cole explained to Los Angeles Entertainment News,

“I’d like to say Smurf because she’s the most powerful. But the exciting thing for Jay to me is that he has a small amount of every character in him. But Smurf also has that, and they have a connection, and they see something in each other, and that’s really fun to watch.”

Interview with Ben Robson (Craig Cody)

Ben Robson’s character Craig Cody is a bravado-filled adrenaline junky that one could hardly consider approachable. Robson gave us some insight about the polar opposite range of actions of Craig Cody.

“At heart, he’s a big mummies boy. He’s also very free; he very much lives in the moment which also gets him into a lot of trouble. He doesn’t think before he acts a lot. He gets into some fun situations, some crazy situations, and some dark situations. But at heart, that’s who he is, and that’s hopefully the endearing part of him.”

Jake Weary portrays Deran the youngest of the Cody brothers. Amidst his life chaos, he is struggling to truly be himself. On one end of the spectrum, Deran is aggressive and unpredictable but in reality he is finding it difficult to let his family know that he is gay. Weary elaborates on Deran’s crisis.

It’s a secret that he can’t “completely open up to his family about because it’s such a hyper-masculine environment. I think he is also worried about his position in the family, and potentially this secret could get him banished from the family. Or maybe that affection from his mother is diminished in some sort of way. That is one of the reasons I really enjoy playing this part is that I have something underneath to work with and kind of use to fuel the performance, it’s something special.”

Interview with Jake Weary (Deran Cole)

Weary revealed some insightful advice for those that can identify with Deran’s plight.

“It’s all about how you perceive yourself. I think as humans we worry so much about what other people think. You’re going to be so much happier if you just believe in yourself and trust in who you are and what you can bring to the table and who you can make smile and laugh.”

The secrets of the Animal Kingdom will be revealed in the two-hour series premiere this Tuesday, June 14th on TNT.
