Where the Celebrities were Pre-Grammys

On the day of the Grammys many celebrities including Cedric the Entertainer, DL Hughley, Dennis Haysbert, Ron Perlman and more could be found at Calabasas Country Club. The stars convened for an evening of golf, revelry, and fundraising for the non-profit Random Acts of Kindness Everywhere (R.A.K.E.). The Stephen Bishop Celebrity Golf Invitational teamed with the Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation, in the first of what is to be an inaugural event. Cedric the Entertainer could be seen singing and messing around with Joe Torry and Ricky Smith. Check out the video below.

R.A.K.E.’s Mission

R.A.K.E.’s mission is to change culture and promote kindness as a virtue. With the help of the Will and Jada Smith Foundation, which donated 25,000 dollars to the event, Ricky Smith, the founder of the organization, seeks to help celebrities utilize their platform for the greater good.

“[tweet_dis]The concept of the organization (R.A.K.E.) is one that everyone can participate in[/tweet_dis],” stated football legend Jim Brown.

This is “one of the best charity events,” with which I’ve been involved stated David Justice, formerly of the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees, and Oakland Athletics.

The event’s Master of Ceremonies Stephen Bishop, most known for his role opposite Brad Pitt in the six time Academy Award nominated film Moneyball was,”truly humbled at the outpouring of support from my friends and colleagues that came to the inaugural celebrity invitational…with people performing RAKEs all over the place.”

The event consisted of a putting contest and clinics taught by Sr. PGA Professional Roger Gunn and LPGA star Alison Lee. The awards ceremony and dinner would take place in the evening, with first place winners taking home Adidas apparel, clubs by Taylormade, custom jackets by Woody Wilson Bespoke of Beverly Hills, and gift baskets from Mel and Rose containing an assortment of tequilas along with other delicacies.

The Stars

The event was attended by a slew of stars, who took time out of one of the busiest days of entertainment, the Grammys, to support the organization, their friends, and society in developing a more communal and kinder world. The celebrity golfers included: Alex Thomas, Alison Lee, Cedric the Entertainer, Chris Spencer, Craig T. Nelson, David Justice, Ron Perlman and Dennis Haysbert.

[tweet_dis]”I have played in hundreds of tournaments around the world and never have I seen one that has everything the celeb golfer wants until I played in the R.A.K.E. fundraiser. Great competition, great food, great prizes, pace of play perfect! Best tournament I’ve ever been a part of!”[/tweet_dis] exclaimed producer, comedian, and actor Chris Spencer.
